Maps from Memory

Maps from Memory

This is one of my favourites, I just had to share it.

At Grad School, late at night in the studio…

My fellow grad student, friend (and brilliant artist) Steve Lambert called over the wall to me: “Are you busy?”

He had to do a drawing for an upcoming charity auction, and proposed that I (a Canadian) draw a map of the United States, and that he (a lifelong Californian), draw a map of Canada from memory.

We set the parameters:

  • no references
  • a time limit
  • One half of a large piece of paper.

This was a fun little project, and is a constant reminder of my need to continuiously educate myself!  : )
